How Indoor Karting Barcelona runs karting, bowling, and laser tag on one system

Three activities, several points of sale, and a full house every weekend. The team at Indoor Karting Barcelona explains, on camera, why they have kept BMI Leisure running their venue day to day.

A venue where one guest is never doing just one thing

Indoor Karting Barcelona has spent 25 years building one of the busiest multi-activity venues in the Barcelona area. The centre is built around a multilevel go-kart track that can run around 16 adult karts at the same time, with a separate fleet of children’s karts alongside it.

Around the track sits everything else: an eight-lane bowling centre, one of the biggest laser tag arenas in Spain, and a restaurant area that fills up with birthday parties every weekend.

That mix is what makes the operation demanding. A single group can arrive for a race, move to laser tag, sit down to eat and finish with a couple of bowling games — and the venue has to keep track of all of it without the queue at reception growing.

Why they chose BMI Leisure

When the team went looking for software, the requirement was specific: one supplier that could handle a karting track, a bowling alley, a laser tag arena and a restaurant together — not four systems stitched into one another.

“BMI Leisure was the only company that offered the kind of service we are still using day to day. There is a big team behind it, with very good support.” – Oliver Vervaet, Owner

One point of sale, every activity

The venue runs several points of sale across the building, all working from the same system. Because everything sits on one platform, a staff member at any station can see and sell every activity — a race, a bowling lane, a laser tag session, food — and assign a group to all of them in a single flow.

“As we have more than one activity, the BMI Leisure point of sale makes it very easy to get all the clients onto the different activities at the same time.” – Oliver Vervaet, Owner

That is the difference between a mixed booking taking one conversation instead of three, which is what keeps a weekend afternoon moving.

Timing that guests can read from the track

Karting is the part of the venue where data becomes part of the fun. The timing software gives the team a live view of every kart on track, and the same information goes straight onto the scoreboards guests watch between races.

What the team sees on the timing screen

Kart Driver Best Last lap Average
07 Driver name 00:34.812 00:35.104 00:35.6
12 Driver name 00:35.006 00:34.998 00:35.9
03 Driver name 00:35.240 00:36.512 00:36.1

Illustrative view. Each row is a kart on track: kart number, the driver in it, their best lap, their last lap and their average — so the team can see instantly whether a driver is speeding up or falling back.

“It is very comfortable. Here we have every kart, the kart number, the person in the car, the best time they do, the last lap, and the average time — so you are going to know if he is running faster.” – Oliver Vervaet, Owner

Support at six on a Saturday evening

For a venue whose busiest hours are exactly the hours most suppliers are offline, support is not a footnote in the contract. It is the reason the team sleeps at night.

“Working on a Saturday at six in the evening, there might be a small issue — and having 24-hour support available makes it very relaxed. There is always help that can assist us.” – Oliver Vervaet, Owner

What the venue gets out of it

  • One system for four revenue streams. Karting, bowling, laser tag and food are sold and managed from the same platform.
  • Faster mixed bookings. Any point of sale in the building can put a group into every activity at once.
  • Live timing guests can see. Kart number, driver, best lap, last lap and average speed, on the track scoreboards.
  • A reason to come back. The mobile app keeps guests’ best times, bookings and upcoming events in their pocket.
  • Peak-hours cover. 24/7 support for the moments when the venue is fullest.
