Somewhere between the third jammed coin mech and the tenth guest asking why the arcade still runs on tokens, every FEC operator ends up typing the same thing into Google: sacoa vs embed — or Semnox vs Intercard, depending on which trade-show booth they visited last. And the search results are surprisingly little help: an old Reddit thread, vendor brochures, and forum arguments. This is the comparison we wished existed — all four major cashless card systems, described from their own published pages and verified in July 2026. Plus the one question most buyers ask too late: do you need a card system, a venue platform, or both?

What a Cashless Card System Actually Does (Quick Answer)
A cashless card system replaces coins, tokens and paper tickets in an arcade or FEC with rechargeable RFID cards or wristbands. Guests load value once at a kiosk or POS; a reader on each game deducts credits and banks e-tickets automatically. The four established vendors are Sacoa, Embed, Semnox (Parafait) and Intercard.
The business case is straightforward: no coin jams, no ticket counters, no shrinkage from loose cash, and — because unspent balance stays on the card — guests who come back to use it. Card systems also unlock dynamic pricing (bonus credits on larger top-ups) and per-game revenue data you simply cannot get from a coin box. Every vendor in this comparison exists because of those economics; where they differ is hardware, software depth and who they’re built for.
How Do Arcade Cards Work?
The mechanics are the same across all four systems, and they matter for the comparison — because every step below is a piece of hardware or software you’ll be buying:
- Load: the guest buys a card and loads value at a self-service kiosk or staffed POS.
- Tap: a reader mounted on each game deducts the game price via RFID tap (or swipe/insert on older media) and starts the game.
- Win: redemption games bank e-tickets straight to the card — no paper tickets to count, jam or lose.
- Redeem: at the prize counter, staff (or a kiosk) deduct e-tickets against inventory.
- Return: leftover credits stay on the card, giving the guest a reason to come back — and giving you a record of who they are and what they played.
That last step is where card systems quietly become marketing tools: the card links play history to a guest, which is the raw material for bounce-back offers and memberships — if the data can reach your CRM (more on that below).
How We Compared (And Who We Are)
Full transparency: this comparison is published by BMI Leisure. We build all-in-one venue management software for entertainment venues, including our own cashless & arcade module — and our platform integrates with arcade card systems including Sacoa and Intercard. So we are not a neutral bystander, but we’re also not a competitor to these four in the way you might assume: we connect to card systems more often than we replace them.
To keep this honest, we followed the same rules as our other comparisons. Every vendor is described from its own published pages (fetched and verified July 30, 2026), and scale figures are labeled as each vendor’s own claims. Where we don’t know something — like pricing, which none of the four publishes — we say so instead of guessing.

Sacoa: The Operator-Founded System
Sacoa’s origin story is its differentiator: the company behind it has operated FECs in Argentina for over 65 years, and built the card system in the early ’90s to run its own venues before selling it to the industry. Today it self-reports 2,500+ installations across 70+ countries, with offices in the USA, UK, UAE, Brazil, Mexico and six other countries — and claims operators see an average revenue increase of 30% after going cashless (their figure, not ours).
The current lineup covers the PlayCard reader with NFC and RFID, the Spark reader, K5 compact self-service kiosks, and software spanning POS, redemption, prize management, access control, waivers and reporting. Two pieces stand out for multi-attraction FECs: Time Tracker, which automates session control for time-based attractions like trampolines, climbing walls and soft play, and KwikPay, its real-time payment and telemetry layer.
Considerations: the operator heritage shows in the product’s breadth, but breadth cuts both ways — map which Sacoa modules would overlap with systems you already run (POS, waivers) before you buy both.
Embed: The Big-Chain Reference System
Embed’s calling card is who runs it: Dave & Buster’s, Six Flags, Bandai Namco, Cineplex and Andretti all appear on its customer wall, and it self-reports 1,000+ customers with 3,000+ installations across 59+ countries. Its hardware centers on the smartTOUCH contactless reader family and KIOSK+ self-service units, with Playwave game cards and wearables as the media.
On the software side, Embed sells the TOOLKIT bundle — Sales, Prizes, Reports and Mobile Wallet in the core, with Stats, Bookings and Central Games Management as add-ons — running alongside its GURU product. Its most repeated claim: Mobile Wallet has been “the only Apple and Google certified mobile payment solution in the industry” since 2019, which matters if you want guests topping up from their phones without pulling out a physical card.
Considerations: chain-scale references prove the system scales up; they say less about how it scales down. A single-location FEC should ask which TOOLKIT modules are genuinely included at its size, and for references from venues with one or two locations rather than two hundred.
Semnox (Parafait): The Broadest Suite
Semnox positions Parafait as more than a card system — it’s the closest of the four to a full venue platform, spanning RFID cards and wristbands, wireless debit readers, POS, self-service kiosks, digital signage and CRM, with sister products Tixera (amusement and water parks) and Delikopos (food service). It self-reports 2,800+ sites in 60+ countries across three segments: outdoor parks, indoor FECs — including arcades, trampoline parks and VR/AR centers — and F&B chains.
Considerations: the breadth means Semnox will happily quote you far more than game readers. That can be a strength if you’re starting from zero, or a source of duplicate functionality if you already run booking, POS or CRM elsewhere — be precise about which modules you’re actually buying.
Intercard: The Cashless Specialist
Intercard has sold cashless technology to the amusement industry since 1989 — the longest explicit track record of the four — and emphasizes that its products are made in the USA. The hardware line runs from the iReader series (“a world-standard all-in-one unit,” in its own words) to the newer iQReader, which accepts both play cards and credit cards directly at the game. iTeller self-service kiosks round out the line, up to the 32-inch PlusXL. Software includes the Shindigger mobile product, the Edge mobile app collection, e-commerce and online waivers. It serves FECs, bowling centers, cruise ships, cinemas and route operators, and won an IAAPA Brass Ring award in 2024.
Considerations: Intercard is the most focused pure cashless play here, which keeps the proposition clean — but its homepage names fewer flagship customers than Embed’s (a Bowlero case study is referenced). Ask for referenceable venues at your size and in your region.
Is Sacoa or Embed Better for Your FEC?
Neither is categorically better — they publish different strengths. Sacoa emphasizes flexible reader hardware and Time Tracker for time-based attractions like trampolines and soft play; Embed emphasizes its TOOLKIT software bundle, certified Apple/Google mobile wallet and large-chain references like Dave & Buster’s. The right answer depends on your attraction mix, your existing systems, and regional support.
If you search this question, most of what Google returns is forum debate — and that’s actually instructive. When operators argue Sacoa vs Embed on Reddit or Pinside, they rarely argue about feature lists. They argue about reader reliability, support response times, and the recurring cost of cards — the things that only show up after installation. No comparison article (including this one) can settle those for your venue; reference calls with operators your size can. Treat the table above as the shortlist-builder, and put your diligence effort into support SLAs and consumables pricing.
What about Semnox vs Intercard?
Same logic, different axis. Semnox is the “how much platform do you want?” option — RFID wristbands, CRM, and F&B reach well beyond the arcade floor. Intercard is the “how focused do you want?” option — 35+ years of cashless specialization and US-made hardware, with fewer platform ambitions. An arcade-first venue with existing booking and POS systems will shortlist Intercard or Sacoa; a greenfield venue tempted to buy everything from one vendor will shortlist Semnox — and should read the next section first.
Card System or Full Venue Platform? The Question Behind the Question
Here’s the part most buyers discover after signing: all four systems above solve the arcade wallet — value on a card, readers on games, tickets and prizes. But a modern FEC’s revenue doesn’t live only on the game floor. Online booking with real-time capacity, digital waivers tied to guest profiles, birthday party scheduling with deposits and F&B pre-orders, memberships, CRM — that operational layer is what venue management platforms do, and it’s a different purchase from a card system.
The clearest evidence that these are complementary — not competing — purchases is that the industry integrates them. ROLLER publishes documentation for connecting Sacoa cards to its booking platform. Our own platform integrates with Sacoa, Intercard and AmusementConnect: guests buy and reload game credits through the booking flow, POS or self-service kiosks. Credits can even be spent on non-arcade products like food and drinks, and every purchase, use, and transfer lands in one reporting layer tied to the guest profile. FECs like Elev8 Fun run that venue layer across multiple locations. The card system runs the games; the platform runs the venue; the integration makes them one guest experience.
How to Choose: 6 Questions Before You Sign
- What’s your attraction mix? Pure arcade → any of the four. Time-based attractions (trampoline, climbing, soft play) → weigh Sacoa’s Time Tracker and Semnox’s wristband model, and decide where session booking will live.
- Cards, wristbands, or both? Cards are cheaper per unit; wristbands work better when the same media must carry game credits and session access. Price the consumables for a year, not a launch order.
- How does it talk to the rest of your stack? Ask each vendor for their published integrations with your booking platform and POS — and ask your platform vendor the reverse. An integration listed on a website is a claim; a reference venue running it is proof.
- What’s the true total cost? None of the four publishes pricing, so build the comparison yourself: hardware per reader × your game count, kiosks, software licenses, card stock, and the support contract. Cheap readers with expensive consumables is a common surprise.
- Who supports you, from where? A reader down on Saturday is lost revenue by the hour. Check where each vendor’s nearest support office or distributor actually is, and what response time the contract guarantees.
- What does the data feed? Per-game revenue is table stakes. The valuable question is whether card data reaches your CRM and POS reports so unspent balances and play history turn into bounce-back campaigns — that’s where cashless stops being plumbing and starts being marketing.

Book Your DemoFrequently Asked Questions
How much does a cashless card system cost for an FEC?
None of the four major vendors — Sacoa, Embed, Semnox or Intercard — publishes pricing. Systems are quoted per venue based on the number of game readers, kiosks, POS stations and card stock, plus software and support. When comparing quotes, ask for total cost of ownership: hardware per reader, recurring software fees, card/wristband consumables and support contracts.
Which card system does Dave & Buster’s use?
Embed lists Dave & Buster’s among its customers, alongside chains like Six Flags, Bandai Namco, Cineplex and Andretti. Large-chain references show a system scales, but a 200-store chain negotiates support and pricing a single FEC won’t get — always ask vendors for references at your size.
Can you use wristbands instead of arcade cards?
Yes. Semnox publishes RFID wristband support in its Parafait suite, and Embed offers wearables through its Playwave line. Wristbands suit venues mixing arcade with time-based attractions, since one band can carry game credits and session access. Confirm wearable pricing separately — bands typically cost more per unit than cards.
Do cashless card systems handle time-based attractions like trampolines?
Partially. Sacoa offers Time Tracker for time-based attractions such as trampoline parks, climbing walls and soft play, and Semnox targets trampoline parks with RFID wristbands. But session timing is not the same as session booking — capacity-managed online booking, digital waivers and party scheduling typically live in a venue management platform, not the card system.
Can a cashless card system integrate with booking software?
Yes — this is the standard architecture for multi-attraction venues. Venue platforms publish card-system integrations: ROLLER documents a Sacoa integration, and BMI Leisure integrates with Sacoa, Intercard and AmusementConnect, letting guests buy and reload game credits through the booking flow, POS or self-service kiosks while every transaction lands in one reporting layer.
